Learn to recognize and understand movement—and use this knowledge to provide targeted movement instruction.
The course offers a thorough introduction to the Laban-Bartenieff Movement System (LBBS) and provides a nuanced approach to movement as an expression of development, self-awareness, and environmental awareness. As a holistic system, LBBS helps participants perceive and use movement in a more conscious, clear, and versatile way.
The course is aimed at dance therapists, dance teachers, and educators. It enables participants to precisely observemovement and draw conclusions about psychophysical development, inner organization, and relational abilities. These observations form the basis for coherent interventions in dance instruction and in dance and movement therapy.
The course works with the movement components body, effort, shape, and space. Body organization, movement dynamics, shape change, and use of space can be experienced as reflections of inner attitudes, needs, and developmental steps. One focus is on self-reflection: through one’s own movement, perception, and pausing, personal preferences, habits, and opportunities for growth become visible.
Experiences such as feeling weight, allowing flow, aligning oneself, taking up space, and forming contact deepen the understanding of stability and mobility, closeness and distance. Creative methods such as painting, writing, sharing, and mindful observation support integration.
In this way, the course becomes a living tool that trains perception, strengthens self-competence, and makes movement usable as a clear language for development, relationships, and learning.
