Understanding psychiatric diagnoses with confidence – and understanding people in their physical embodiment.
As interested dance therapists, psychotherapists, and psychologists, we find this course to be a valuable addition to our clinical confidence. It combines psychiatric anamnesis with a movement- and body-oriented perspective and sharpens our diagnostic eye.
The focus is on the specific features of psychiatric anamnesis: heredity, development and attachment, stress factors, course of illness, personality traits and temperament. This structure helps us to classify symptoms in a biographical and relational context.
Different disorders—from ADHD and anxiety disorders to affective disorders, schizophrenia, personality development disorders, and autism—are examined with a focus on nonverbal forms of expression.
Finally, we reflect on the possibilities and limitations of dance and movement therapy in psychiatric diagnoses. Indications, contraindications, and disorder-specific needs are clearly identified and classified professionally.
The course strengthens our ability to make differentiated diagnoses and act responsibly in therapy, as well as to incorporate newer clinical pictures and views of human nature.
