Course content:

Every human being has travelled this path once before: from a single cell to a moving, feeling body. This course invites you to rediscover this early development, from fertilisation to the formation of the first organ systems.

Knowledge of the zygote, germ layers, midline and neural tube remains closely connected to personal experience. Students explore each developmental step and the basic neurological movement patterns through movement, touch and perception. In this way, embryology becomes individually tangible in one’s own body.

This experience gives rise to questions of origin, support, orientation and alignment. The course thus opens a valuable pathway to self-reflection, on which later dance movement therapy work builds.

  1. Fertilisation (conception): the union of egg and sperm cell as the cellular origin of human development
  2. Primary wholeness (zygote) and pulsating cell community (morula): the first cell divisions and the significance of rhythmic cell activity
  3. Spatial organisation of the embryo (blastocyst) and implantation: the beginning of the physiological relationship between embryo and maternal environment
  4. Differentiation of the germ layers (gastrulation): the foundation for all tissues, organs and body systems
  5. Formation of the first midline (notochord): orientation, organisation and alignment of the developing body
  6. Development of the central nervous system (neural tube formation): how the brain, spinal cord and basic neurological organisation emerge
  7. Development of the cardiovascular system: heart, blood and vessels as the first functional organ system
  8. Basic neurological movement patterns in embryology: the connection between embryological development and movement, explored through self-experience
